It is a reminder to many people that police officers risk their lives every day to protect the residents of Hayward, California. The chase on 880 Freeway ended up with some real property damage. Two suspects that were running away from a police car on 880 Highway smashed into a sound a wall and then crashed into a police car that was following them. No one seemed to be injured right after the accident. I do not know the mechanics of the accidents but often time if there is no fracture or severe bleeding after car accident that usually means that no one is injured. However, it is inevitable that soft tissue injury is always a possibility for Hayward Police Officers and getaway party.
Hayward Police Department received an anonymous phone call around 10.57am about two men wearing a mask, near a mobile home park at Folsom and Tampa avenues in Hayward. Police officer Lt. Larry Vargas reported that two suspect getaway on Jeep Cherokee when police responded to a phone call. The chase was on 880 Northbound direction, while suddenly two suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a sound wall. During a crash the car span 180 degrees and was facing the opposite traffic direction. The fugitives tried to restart their vehicle and began moving into an opposite direction and crashed into the front of the police car. The second police vehicle arrived right on time and pinned the getaway vehicle against the sound wall.
As it turned out, both men had an extensive criminal record. Both were in a possession of stolen motor vehicle parts and hand gun was discovered during a search. It is really fortunate that no fire gun was exchanged during this chase. Hayward Police Department was quick and very responsive to a concern of Hayward resident. It is also very fortunate that other vehicle during morning commute did not get in contact with this dangerous vehicle.
