Hayward Whiplash Car Accident is Proven By Scientific Methods
Millions of motor vehicle collisions are happening all over the world every day. A certain percentage of these people are being injured. For some of these victims the collision is only the beginning of their problem.
Many medical care professionals agree of the whiplash injury after the car accident collision. Medical Emergency Room Docs, family physicians, and Chiropractic Doctors fully appreciate the extent of whiplash injury suffered by people. Most recent survey found that majority of local chiropractic physicians and orthopedic physicians agree with the validity of Whiplash mechanism.
Majority of the insurance companies disagree that rear impact injury after car accident could cause significant soft tissue damage for obvious economic reasons. As a result there is a conflict between the treating doctor program and insurance company limitations for therapy parameters. The only person who suffers in this situation is the individual who sustained a whiplash injury.
DOES IT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY?
Many papers have been published in scientific and medical journal explaining the mechanism on how the soft tissue is being injured during a rear end impact. It is no longer theory, but hard science that tells us that these type of injuries are real.
Panjabi and Grauer at the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at Yale University School of Medicine had human cadavers filmed at high speeds using motion X-Rays (cineradiography) while being exposed to simulated rear end collision. This research has clearly documented the mechanism of injury during whiplash car accident.
The same study was repeated in 1998 live human subjects by Panjabi, Cholewsky and Grauer and the same results were obtained. The findings of these studies were confirmed on live human test subjects by Kaneoka et al in 1999 at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Tsukuba, Japan.
The Panjabi and Kaneoka studies proved what proponents of read end collision treatment have been saying for decades. Mostly, the cervical spine is injured during rear end crash. Whiplash is real thing for soft tissue injury.
It was a shocking news when researches found out what is happening to a cervical spine during a whiplash loads. It turned out that the joint of the neck do not move back into hyperextension as was proposed before. The vertebral bones of the lower cervical spine rotate backwards and then the upper vertebral bones flex forward. About 50 milliseconds into the loading, the spine takes on an “S” configuration. This “S” deformation causes shearing forces to the joints, discs, muscles and ligaments resulting in significant damage. This process is happening so fast that human subject does not have enough time to guard and protect the soft tissue of the cervical spine. In other words, by the time you are conscious of the impact via sight or sound, your neck is already damaged!
After studying this research, prominent researcher Nikolai Bogduk of the University of Newcastle wrote “As a result of this study, we no longer rely on inference or speculation; we have a direct demonstration of the mechanism of injury in whiplash.”
Numbers of newer studies have been performed on live human subjects utilizing cineradiography that proves the effect of whiplash trauma of the cervical spine.
Whiplash is no longer a theory that can be disputed. Medical science now proves without reservation that it is indeed real.
