Ever since the chiropractic practice has begun there have been a number of controversies and criticisms it faced, both internal and external controversy. Because it is closely related in some way to some branches of mainstream medicine the practice have been on a continuing battle to prove that they are legitimate.
Even the founder of chiropractic Daniel D. Palmer was jailed of practicing medicine without a license, among many other chiropractors back in the early days. Chiropractors also did not agree in vaccination and strongly opposed the treatment. Because they believe that all diseases are cause by some spinal misalignment and don’t need vaccines to cure it. And up until now this has been an ongoing fight of chiropractors all over the world to prove their worth and the Piedmont chiropractor is no exemption.
Though many doctors continue to oppose the process of vaccination, it is now considered to be the most effective public health measures all throughout history. The groups of chiropractors are also one of the many other groups which opposed the water fluoridation because it is incompatible to their philosophy. But just recently there are a few groups of chiropractors which changed their mind and promoted fluoridation and even endorsed some scientific principles of public health.
Aside from the external battle with the mainstream medicine they also have some ongoing internal battle amongst different chiropractor groups. Now they form two different sub-groups known as the straights and mixers. The straights which is now a minority still practices the classic chiropractic theory and still believes that spinal adjustments is the only solution in curing all forms of diseases. One example is the groups of Piedmont Chiropractor, among them are chiropractor which practices the straight treatment and there is other which uses the mixers way.
Even with a strong opposition of chiropractic principles and theories from the mainstream medicine expert chiropractor still stand by their beliefs. Personal claims of patient and chiropractors, the treatment does have much evidence of their validity. Serious research of the chiropractic theories started in 1970.
Though with all the controversy and criticism the profession still continues to grown and there are more people which are interested in the research of chiropractic field. Efforts of improving services and treatments are still ongoing for chiropractors and the Piedmont Chiropractor group also aims to achieve it. There are people or patients which are satisfied with what a chiropractor or the chiropractic treatment is given them. Most people who suffer from back pain would instantly seek the aid of a chiropractor than a medical physician.
Even with its controversies and other anomalies, chiropractic care still continues to gain followers. And there are a number of individuals who say that they got better after been treated by a chiropractor. Other will just try out anything to make them feel better. And even with many disagreements with the mainstream medicine they both share the same goal of wanting to make their patient feel better. Unscientific or not as long as chiropractic treatment is performed correctly and by a skilled professional it would definitely improve patient’s health in some way, like the Piedmont Chiropractor groups would always assure their patient with.
